Graham asked, some time ago, for a bit of a profile. Here it is.
I'm currently employed by the Taipei Language Institute, Kaohsiung Center as an English instructor, co-manager of the Foreign Language Department, and English language consultant for the Chinese Language Department. Basically, I teach English, hire and fire teachers, and answer English language email.
I am also chief cook and bottle washer of several projects of my own, including, but not limited to, Target EIL, SPAJAL (Student, Professional and Academic Journal of Applied Linguistics and TOLSOL [Teaching of One Language to Speakers of Other Languages]), SPAJDE (Student, Professional and Academic Journal of Distance Education) and O-WIRe (Online Writers', Illustrators' and Readers' eCollective).
Two courses into an MDE through Athabasca University, I decided to drop out temporarily and do a master of applied linguistics. In preparation for that, I'm busy working on a description of Phased Acquisition Theory (based on the Phased Acquisition Model of Extrinsic Language Acquisition), the Random Acquisition Model (formerly the Thermodynamic Analogy Model) of Extrinsic Language Acquisition and a composite word list based on the Dolch, General Service, Academic and GEPT (General English Proficiency Test) word lists. You can check it all out at SPAJAL and Mark Penny's Linguoverse, my blog in SPAJAL.
